Japan’s capital city Tokyo, now has a new luxury hotel ready to greet guests who demand the ultimate in pampering and legendary service, The Peninsula Tokyo which opened on September 1st.
The legendary service offered by The Peninsula group means that The Peninsula Tokyo plans to continue its long partnership with Rolls Royce by offering a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom ll, two customised Rolls-Royce Extended Wheelbase Phantoms and 3 customized 750 Li BMWs to collect and return guests to their point of arrival and departure in Tokyo.
The Peninsula Tokyo, stands 24 storeys high and is superbly located in the fashionable/lifestyle district of Marunouchi, the area fast becoming Tokyo’s most sought after destination.
Most new hotels opening in cities where space is at a premium – and Tokyo is very much one of those – opt to be part of high-rise buildings or multi-use complexes. The Peninsula is the only free-standing hotel to be built in Tokyo in more than a decade, and is poised to become Tokyo’s new landmark, offering commanding city views, every sophisticated amenity one could desire, along with the legendary Peninsula service.
Architect, designers and sculptors worked well together to achive something very special for The Peninsula Tokyo. The celebrated Architect Kazukiyo Sato had a vision of The Peninsula Tokyo as a traditional Japanese lantern at the entrance of Marunouchi and Ginza. To complement this, well known Japanese designer Keisen Hama has created a magnificent bamboo masterpiece in the heart of the lobby. The enclosed atrium soars to 70 metres and from the 8th to the 23rd floors, three windows on each floor provide glimpses of a specially commissioned sculpture created by international artists Ben Jakover and Yannick Yu.
Rooms are among the city’s largest and have stunning views of the Tokyo skyline, Imperial Gardens and Hibiya Park. In all guestrooms and suites, the furnishings are modern with Japanese-inspired accents, each space blending traditional Peninsula standards of comfort with a style taken from Japanese heritage and culture.
Interior designer Yukio Hashimoto has used earth tone colours, woods, lacquer, marble and stone with style married to functionality and has created a luxurious living environment whether it is in the marble bathroom with its own mood lighting and 15” flat TV screen, or the spacious self-contained dressing room with signature Peninsula valet box, weather panel and a nail dryer!
Everything is on the ultra luxury level, from the portable city-wide phone to the 42” plasma screen TV and the black-out screens for the windows.
If you can bear to leave your room, there are five unique restaurants, lounge bar, a wedding chapel, fitness centre and the famed Pensula Spa by ESPA. The spa plans to set a benchmark for Tokyo in terms of skills and quality treatments, with each ESPA therapist being officially certified by the ESPA organization.
To relax after treatments in the spa, there is a balcony overlooking the Imperial Gardens, and for browsing there are 3 luxury jewellery shops – Graff, de Grisogono and Chantecler Tokyo.
